Tapping requires synchronized spindle rotation and axial feed based on thread pitch. The mathematical relationship is different from a general milling feed calculation.
Tapping feed relationship
For synchronized tapping, feed = RPM × pitch for a metric thread, with the equivalent pitch or thread-per-inch relationship in imperial systems. The exact machine cycle also depends on rigid tapping and control behavior.
Hole preparation
Thread size, drill diameter, material, tap style and hole depth influence torque and chip evacuation. Use the tap manufacturer guidance for the actual tool.
Lubrication and synchronization
Lubrication, coolant delivery and spindle/feed synchronization are practical process variables. The calculator only performs the arithmetic relationship.
